Primary Care Paramedic
Paramedics working in primary care are highly trained, degree-level professionals who work alongside GPs seeing many of the same sort of patients.
About Paramedics in Primary Care
Paramedics are experienced first responders in a variety of situation. In a primary care setting they see the same types of patients as GPs. They may run clinics, triage and manage minor illnesses and provide continuity for patients with complex health needs. They can carry out assessment and the management of requests for same-day home visits as well as more regular home visits for patients with long-term conditions.
They can assess and triage patients, provide advice on general healthcare and perform specialist health checks and reviews – such as performing and interpreting ECGs, undertaking investigatory procedures and perform blood tests.
Some GP practices employee paramedics to help care for their patients and in some areas they are employed by a network of GP practices to support patients across a geographical area.
